A Slovak soldier who was seriously wounded in a recent attack on Kandahar air base in Afghanistan has arrived to Slovakia for continuing treatment. The soldier suffered a gunshot wound to the chest on July 9 when a member of the Afghan forces opened fire on a group of Slovak soldiers, killing 35-year-old Sergeant Daniel Kavuliak and wounding several others.
The solider in Slovakia was transferred from the military hospital in Landstuhl, Germany to the Central Military Hospital in Ružomberok. The Ministry of Defence spokeswoman Martina Balleková announced that the other of the two severely injured soldiers remains in hospital in Germany. The Defence Minister Martin Glváč says that the soldier is under the supervision of top doctors, and his health has stabilised after completing major surgery.
