As of the beginning of this month the bus company SAD Žilina cancelled the direct link from Žilina to Komárno that for 40 years had connected the northern Slovakia to its south. The reason given is the fall in the numbers of passengers, following the introduction of free rail transport for pupils, students and pensioners in mid-November of last year (2014). Another operator, SAD Prievidza cancelled the link connecting this town to capital Bratislava citing similar reasons.
