Miroslav Lajčák discusses Ukraine and European security in the USA
A stable Ukraine is the best answer to the current problems eastwards from the EU, Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák said during talks with U.S. Vice President Joe Biden and US President Barack Obama's Advisor for National Security Susan Rice on Thursday and Friday (29-30 January) in Washington. Lajčák said that EU should play a more prominent role in the Ukrainian success. "The success of Ukraine lies in combating corruption, embracing inclusive dialogue with regions, stopping oligarchic influence and adopting the philosophy of reforms," he stressed. Lajčák and Rice both praised the high level of bilateral relations between Slovakia and USA and discussed options of how the EU and America could help Ukraine arrive at peace and prosperity. Instead of the use of force and the supply of weapons, the Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister would prefer to see a more intense political process under auspices of EU.
