Representatives of LGBTI organizations have been rejecting the referendum on "the protection of the family" from the beginning, but initially considered the discussion about it an opportunity for an exchange of arguments and finding a commonly acceptable consensus, informed Executive Director of the civil initiative Inakost (Otherness) Martin Macko. "Unfortunately, the reality is that the referendum and the campaign around it divide our society: they cause conflicts in families or workplaces, and give rise to senseless quarrels between friends. In our opinion the campaign for the referendum precludes a decent discussion and resorts to repetition of many times disproved lies and half-truths," reads the statement.
