Many people were affected by a development at an ice rink Čaňa, Roman Keruľ from the Office of the Kosice operations centre stated that firefighters at the scene determined a release of carbon monoxide. Of the 36 affected by carbon monoxide poisoning, 11 were treated at the private Kosice-Saca Hospital, and another 21 at the Louis Pasteur University Hospital Kosice. According to the medical director of Kosice-Saca Hospital Ján Slávik the worst affected patients required hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). "Complete bed rest was suggested for most of the patients, of those who had up to 5% of carbon monoxide (CO) in their system, while for the more severe cases it was up to 19% and those were placed in a hyperbaric chamber. Some of which are still today undergoing treatment," said Slávik.
