Defence Minister Glvač wants updated defence strategy

The Defence Ministry is planning to have its defence strategy updated due to the current security situation and the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, stated Slovak Defence Minister Martin Glváč on Monday. "We want to draft a document that would adequately respond to the new security situation and its possible development, and that would clearly set out where we're heading in this area," said Glváč, adding that the current version of the strategy was okayed in 2005. "Considering the time that has passed since it was implemented, the development of the security environment has been marked by several significant changes. The most marked one is associated with the crisis in Ukraine," said Glváč, adding that what appeared hardly likely to happen in 2005 within the European-Atlantic security environment has become a dangerous reality that has an impact on the country's security interests.
