After an exceptionally hot weekend, temperatures in most Slovakia remain above 35 degrees Celsius.
The Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMU) has issued its highest third-level excessive heat warning for several districts in the south of the Trnava, Nitra, and Banska Bystrica regions for Monday where temperatures are expected to hit 40 degrees Celsius.
“The aforementioned temperature is rare in this particular season and area, and the health risks due to excessive exposure of the human body to such high pressure is high in the case of certain people,” cautioned the institute. So far, as many as 139 people across Slovakia have collapsed due to the heat on Saturday, 100 people had to be taken to hospital.
