Slovakia wants to further engage in child rights
Slovakia will keep engaging in the rights of children on a regional as well as world-wide scale. This stems from a document on human rights in Slovakia that was based on the recommendations of the UN Council for Human rights. The Council evaluated Slovakia last year and came up with 146 recommendations for the country. 9 of those Slovakia did not accept and 4 of those it accepted only partially. The rest of the recommendations were accepted and presented to the Cabinet on Wednesday. Among the recommendations Slovakia refused is the ratification of a document on the protection of rights for migrating workers, as well as a document on the decent employment of local employees. Moreover Slovakia did not accept recommendations for the creation of a mechanism that would help investigate complaints of discrimination and segregation at schools. Ensuring more representation of the Roma minority in the Slovak Parliament was also among the refused recommendations. Slovakia declined to accept these claiming that they are already covered in the country's legislation at a sufficient level. The further engagement of Slovakia in the area of children's rights was not among the UN recommendations; Slovakia chose this goal on its own.
