Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially invited Slovak President Andrej Kiska to celebrations which commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. President Kiska has yet to decide, however. The invitation was noteworthy considering the tone and content of the Slovak president's New Year's Day speech, which criticised Russia's interference in Ukraine, including invading the Crimean peninsula; claiming it as Russian territory. Alexander Duleba, the director of the Research Centre for Slovak Foreign Policy commented that if Moscow changes its policy, Kiska would definitely attend the celebration". The official response from the Slovak president's office is that the plans for travel in 2015 have not yet been finalised.
