Slovakia welcomes Lithuania's accession to the Eurozone as of 1 January, 2015, the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry stated on Wednesday. Lithuania's adoption of the euro "will facilitate easier economic cooperation between Slovakia and Lithuania," stated the ministry, adding that it will also make it easier for both Slovaks and Lithuanians when travelling, as they won't be obliged to exchange their local currency anymore. They join their neighbours Estonia and Latvia into the currency bloc. With a two week dual currency period there have even been reports of customers storming some shops to stock up on food.
