The year will end in extreme cold

Meteorologists warn that the end of the year will be unusually cold for most of Slovakia. Temperatures dropped to between -19 to -21 degrees Celsius in the northernmost districts of the Žilina and Prešov regions and in the Brezno district (Banská Bystrica region) on Tuesday night. As for Wednesday, December 31, they have issued extreme low temperature warnings at the first and second levels for the whole country. A more severe second-level alert will be valid for the north of the country, including parts of central and eastern Slovakia. Areas facing temperatures of up to -24 degrees Celsius should include the Trenčín, Žilina, and Prešov regions, as well as parts of the Banská Bystrica and Košice regions. The warning will be in place between 02:00 to 08:00 AM on Wednesday. The rest of Slovakia is expected to be subject to a less-severe first-level warning, with temperatures hovering between -14 to -19 degrees Celsius.
