On Monday the Bratislava local authority released a warning concerning bogus refuse collectors operating in the city. The impostors are misusing the credulity of mainly the elderly, demanding financial rewards from them for the waste disposal carried out throughout the year. Bratislava waste disposal company OLO has distanced itself from these activities, stating that real refuse collectors would never ask for money. If they did, they could be fined or even sacked, claimed OLO. "If such uninvited visitors surprise you at the door, don't give them money under any circumstances," said Bratislava local authority spokesperson Ivana Skokanová. The local authority also called on the public to help to identify the fraudsters by taking a picture of them or their vehicle.
