Slovaks visit shopping centres abroad such as the ones in Parndorf in Austria, Arkad in the Hungarian town of Gyor and Olympia in the Czech city of Brno much more frequently in December than during the rest of the year, according to an analysis by Sberbank Slovensko. It looked into the use of payment cards abroad and in Slovakia during Christmas last year. While Croatia and Italy top the list in the summer, in December Austria is on top with almost a third of transactions, followed by the Czech Republic with about a fifth and Hungary standing on 15%. The United Kingdom, Germany and Poland complete the list. Slovak consumers spend an average of €211 abroad in December.
