Honorary Chairman of Slovak League of America Ľudovít Pavlo dies
Honorary chairman of the Slovak League of America Ľudovít Pavlo, 89, died early on Sunday, his aide Ivan Reguli told TASR on the same day. After the Communist takeover in Czechoslovakia in 1948, Pavlo became a target of the secret service over his activities. He has spent some time in prison, however, shortly after being released; Pavlo along with Father Štefan Fáber fled to Austria, Germany and later moved to USA. Pavlo, who himself wrote ten books in Slovak and English, supported various activities of the Slovak community in the United States. He was awarded with a Medal of Honor by the Multiethnic Federation in USA in 1996, and received the Pribina Cross First Class from then Slovak President Michal Kováč in 1998.
