According to Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák, Slovakia sees halt of the South Stream pipeline project as a positive and logical decision. Lajčák thus commented on the situation around the project, which should provide transport Russian natural gas through the Black Sea to Southern and Central Europe while bypassing Ukraine. He stated for the media that the project would not solve the problem of the gas sources; it would just solve the diversification of their routes, like reducing Ukraine's role as a transit country. On Monday Miroslav Lajčák attends a session of EU foreign ministers in Brussels to debate the situation in Iraq and Syria, particularly concerning the activities of extremist entity Islamic State. The ministers will also evaluate recent internal developments in Ukraine, and debate options of resolving the conflict in the Donbas area.
