Former Slovak president acted unconstitutionally regarding prosecutor-general vote

The Constitutional Court senate on Thursday, 4th December cancelled the decision of the former Slovak president Ivan Gašparovič from December 2012, not to appoint Jozef Čentéš as prosecutor-general on the grounds that Gasparovic's decision violated basic rights of Jozef Čentéš, who was elected by Parliament in June 2011, but never assumed the office due to Gašparovič 's actions. When confronting each other on RTVS's discussion show on Sunday, Jozes Čentéš underlined that Gašparovič has become the first president in the modern history of Slovakia, who has been found by the Constitutional Court to have violated the rights of an individual. When asked by the anchor whether he regrets going down in history as the first president to make an unconstitutional decision, Gašparovič replied that he regrets that the case became politicised. "The Constitutional Court didn't rule in line with the Constitution, law and other norms, but made a political verdict," claimed Gašparovič. The former president said that he doesn't know whether he'll make use of the option to appeal to European court institutions. He said that he'll need to study the verdict first.
