Small wins in Slovakia’s fight against corruption

In the fight against corruption Slovakia has made some progress. According to the world ranking of corruption perception compiled by Transparency International, Slovakia came in 54th this year among 175 countries. It is an improvement of six spots from 2013. Slovakia has recorded certain improvements thanks to the introduction of legislation on the protection of whistleblowers, more stringent rules concerning the funding of political parties, as well as the introduction of an electronic marketplace with respect to state commissions however implementing respective anti-corruption measures into practice still presents a challenge for the country, stated Gabriel Sipos of Transparency International Slovensko. Sipos observed that Slovakia's 54th place was the sixth worst among European Union-member countries.
