Low labour costs and a first class reputation in the automotive sector did not help the Bratislava-based Volkswagen plant win the production of Bentley’s first luxury SUV. The management of the group, which also clusters Bentley, granted the project to the United Kingdom town of Crewe.
Volkswagen will invest €931 million and open thousands of jobs there instead. “We have lost the investment also due to the strong lobbying of the British government,” J&T Banka analyst Stanislav Pánis says.
