Actors from New York-based theatre Dramatic Adventure Theatre (DAT) paid a visit on 22 July, Monday, to a Roma settlement Rankovce (Kosice region) in order to lend a hand to the local community with the building of their houses, Martin Vavrincik of NGO ETP Slovensko said on Saturday.
Roma families living in Rankovce are legally building their houses on their own, using resources from a micro-loan provided by ETP Slovensko and the rest from their own pockets. The DAT actors spent one day at the construction site as part of their week-long trip to Slovakia, designed to aid children from excluded communities. Aside from Rankovce activities, the American actors will also take part in theatre workshops with children aged 8-17 held in community centres in Kosice region.
