Romania and Poland are closer to linking their electricity market with Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic, with all the involved countries signing a memorandum. Romania and Poland will thus join the project of connected electricity markets, so-called Market Coupling.
“Romania and Poland have decided to join the trilateral project in order to gain benefits of integration and contribute to the development of a single European internal electricity market,” informed the operator of the Slovak Electricity Transmission System (SEPS), which operates the central module of the project that provides key tasks. The project of Market Coupling is particularly advantageous for electricity market participants, contributing to greater liquidity on the electricity market. Thanks to this project, electricity traders should no longer need to book or buy cross-border transmission capacity between countries.
