President Ivan Gašparovič signed an amendment to the law on significant investments which is expected to accelerate the preparation of such investments in the future. A construction with investment costs of at least €100 million instead of the current amount of €33.194 million will be considered a significant investment.
Another condition for a significant investment is that the construction will need to be considered important for the national economy and its implementation will need to create at least three hundred new jobs. When such investments are deemed significant and in the public’s interest, the binding opinion of a local government as an authority in question on the land-use proceedings will not be required. This is the same mechanism which is already applied in the construction of highways and dual carriageways. Local governments can still express their opinion on mining constructions however.
