Slovakia Might Export Water

The Environment Ministry will submit a draft bill that will classify water as business commodity that can be exported, according to the Pravda daily. The state even counts on imposing a 40% tax on water exports. The wording of the new bill envisages that the government will have a free hand in the water business.

It will decide who can sell and export the water. “Every shipment of water across the state border will be conditioned by the Cabinet’s approval,” said spokesman for the Environment Ministry Maros Stano. There is no similar law in the region. Experts assume that Slovak water will be in great demand abroad.
