The number of Slovak companies registered in tax havens has increased by 12 percent, consultancy company Bisnode has announced. In the first half of this year as many as 3,764 companies chose to register their company in tax paradises, mainly in Seychelles, Panama and the U.S.A. According to Karel Pluhar, tax specialist with the Akont Trust Company, the reason why many companies place their property in tax paradises is the fact they don't require much information.
For example, the only thing the Trade Registry in Seychelles examines is whether the company actually exists or not, said Pluhar. Meanwhile in Slovakia, too much information about the owners is freely available on the internet.
