Pope Francis has officially appointed a new archbishop of Trnava. He is to be the present Apostolic Administrator of the Trnava Archdiocese, Bishop John Orosch. Bishop Orosch has been running the archdiocese on a temporary basis after the former Archbishop, Robert Bezák was recalled last year by the then Pope, Benedict XVI after an apostolic visitation took place during January and February 2012.
Among the alleged reasons for the former archbishop’s recall were certain questionable criteria being used for the selection of priests and a somewhat informal approach to priestly attire. Archbishop-elect Orosch said he was grateful for the great confidence shown in him by the Holy Father. He stated that he realizes that his is a difficult task and that he is fully aware of the seriousness of his mission. He also addressed the fact that the archdiocese was divided between supporters and opponents of the previous archbishop. He said what was needed, above all, to repair this disharmony was prayer. Bishop Orosch will be officially consecrated as Archbishop of Trnava on 30 August.
