Around 60% of Slovaks suffer stress at work and most are affected several times a week. Among the biggest triggers of stress are relationships with colleagues, excessive workloads and lack of job appreciation. Slovaks were shown as trying to relieve work stress by positive thinking, taking short breaks at work, talking things over with colleagues, and physical activity.
The findings emerged from an online survey on stress in the workplace, which in June the GfK research agency conducted in June on a sample of 800 respondents. The workers most affected are those in the 35-44 age range. In terms of education, it affects those at the top and bottom of the education scale. University graduates and those who did not complete the school-leaving exam are worst affected. In terms of gender, 54% of women reported regular weekly stress as opposed to 47% of male workers. Almost half of respondents experiencing stress at work identified interpersonal relationships as the biggest trigger of stress and this applied at all levels of management in the company.
