Hundreds of people will be left jobless because of cheaper electricity. This is a scenario which looks likely to occur in Slovakia next year. The power utility Slovenské Elektrárne (whose majority owner is the Italian energy group Enel) announced it would shut down the Vojany thermal power plant in eastern Slovakia, which employs 500 staff.
The reason for this decision has been laid squarely at the feet of new power company regulations from the Regulatory Office for Network Industries (URSO).
