The Ministry of Transport, Construction and Regional Development wants to evaluate the quality of Slovak hotels, restaurants and other tourist facilities using a national quality assurance system. Starting from 2016 operators in the tourism sector could be awarded gold, silver or bronze certificates.
The Ministry is also considering financial support for operators if tourists spend more than five days in their facilities in Slovakia. They could receive€30 per visitor from visa-free countries and double the sum for visitors from countries with a visa requirement. The estimated annual costs of this initiative is €10.5 million but with potential a financial gain of €160 million per sector.
