During the weekend, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims visited the city of Levoča to mark the Feast of Visitation of Our Lady. The oldest pilgrimage in Slovakia has been taking place on the Mariánska hora (Marian Mount) since the Mongol invasion in the 13th century. Many of its visitors come to Levoča on foot.
"We walked 70 kilometers from Muráň (Banská Bystrica region) to Levoča. We made 20 kilometres in the first two days each, and 10 kilometers each the remaining days," two female pilgrims from Hruštín Žilina region) told the TASR news agency adding it wasn't as demanding as they had thought.
