On its first day of operation, a new camera system installed by the Ministry of Transport oversaw a total of 4,536 vehicle inspections in an effort to eliminate fraudulent tests where unsafe or poorly maintained vehicles are certified as roadworthy. The system commenced operation on the first of July and collected 18,623 frames from cameras, overlooking inspection bays.
“The new camera system to help prevent fraud during technical emission controls, and it’s working without problems. Through its launch, we expect to increase the safety of not only drivers but also pedestrians and other road users," said Minister of Transport, Construction and Regional Development, Jan Počiatek. All control stations and workplaces where emission inspections take place must have monitoring equipment consisting of at least three recording devices installed, recording video and photographs. The entire system is connected to the nationwide automated information system on vehicular technical and emission controls. These measures are aimed at eliminating fictitious checks.
