On 1 July, 2013, Croatia became the 28th member country of the European Union. “The entering of Croatia into European Union was a correct decision and we should fully support the Croats in their future activities,” stated the Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on early Monday morning in Zagreb, after the end of the official celebrations. Together with the representatives of now 28 Union members he has taken part in the celebrations in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.
Croatia, with its four million inhabitants is the second country from the former Yugoslavia, to become part of the EU. Rober Fico has also stated that so far we had very good relations with Croatia, and he hopes for their continuity in the future. He added that Slovakia will also support the enlargement of the Schengen zone to Croatia. In Zagreb, Robert Fico was accompanied by the Foreign Affairs minister Miroslav Lajčák.
