The implementation of the Bratislava-Schwechat, pipeline which is to link the Druzhba oil pipeline system to a refinery at Schwechat near Vienna, is causing worries to the Slovak oil carrier company Transpetrol, and the Austrian company OMV. The planned cost of the pipeline is €75-140 million.
The length of the pipeline interconnection, according to estimates, should be 81 to 152 km. The possible route of the oil pipeline is provoking much discussion both among environmentalists, as well as the general public. The Ministry of Economy is convinced, however, that the route they eventually come up with will satisfy everyone. The pipeline should be built within six years from the start of construction.
