Slovakia has safe nuclear facilities which in the year 2012 were operated in a reliable way, is the conclusion of the Nuclear Supervision Office that was presented to the Government at its regular session on Wednesday. “There were no serious events recorded in 2012 that would have led to the Supervision Office to issue an order to reduce performance or turn off any reactors or the running of a nuclear power plant,” reads the report.
However, there were unexpected events at these plants in the year 2012, nonetheless “the number and character of these events was within the usual technical failures without being of any security significance,” the Nuclear Supervision Office reasoned. The shortcomings which were discovered during the inspection have been rectified and new measures were taken in order to eliminate their re-occurrence, the report states. 4 nuclear power plants are currently in operation in Slovakia, out of those 2 are in the Bohunice V2 power plant and 2 in the Mochovce plant.
