Strong winds and large waves sank two yachts in the large water catchment near Domaša – Dobra in Eastern Slovakia on Monday night. Firefighters and rescue divers are working together in an effort to retrieve the vessels today using ropes and inflatable pontoons.
"It is difficult to recover sinking ships. The storm apparently spilled water into the hulls, and also delivered strong winds and huge waves, with the result that both vessels ultimately overturned. One yacht sank completely and one remained partially above the surface," said Marian Pouchan, Brigade Commander of the Fire and Rescue Service from nearby Humenné. The flooded yacht has been pumped clear of water, with divers now focusing on recovering the submerged yacht as quickly as possible due to reports of it leaking fuel.
