Construction Sector Expected to Stabilise

Local construction companies are expecting that 2013 should be the last year of downturn for Slovakia’s building sector. At present however, builders expect the sector’s performance this year will fall by 4.3 percent y/y. The following year, the situation should stabilise or the sector’s production would increase slightly by 1 percent. These are conclusions stemming from the latest analysis of the Slovak construction sector in the second quarter prepared by the company CEEC Research with support 100 construction companies.

“The sector is starved, it suffers from shortage of orders and, conversely, it has significantly superfluous capacity. Despite the fact that we are in the middle of the main construction season one in three construction companies do not have work,” CEEC Research director Jiří Vacek said.
