The largest group of Slovaks behind bars are between 30-45 years of age, according to 2012 statistics released by the Prison and Judiciary Guard Corps. Out of 9,542 prisoners serving their sentences last year, as many as 4,163 were aged 30-45, with 3,875 of them being men and 288 women.
When compared to 2009, the number of convicted in this age category has grown by more than 1,000 people. However, an increase was recorded in every age category.
