The outcomes of inspections at food chains carried out by Slovak inspection authorities haven't shown improvement compared to the past, said Agriculture Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek on Thursday. “We carried out 4,350 inspections in May 2013 and the number of shortcomings detected reached 673, which represents 15.47 percent,” said Jahnátek, adding that there have been no improvements seen, and the situation is especially bad in cases where the inspections were carried out outside the working hours.
“I have to say that the situation has improved significantly when it comes to transport and import of food,” Jahnátek announced, specifying that 13.5 percent of the inspections found shortcomings. According to him, Polish food importers were again at the top of the black list, but the ratio of shortcomings has decreased to slightly over 15 percent. “Polish importers seem to have taken the tough criticism from the Slovak side very seriously,” said Jahnátek.
