The presidents of the Visegrad Four countries have agreed to support a credible and merit-based enlargement of the European Union, describing it as a strategic investment in Europe's peace and security. They also reaffirmed their support for Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and European future, calling for a just and lasting peace.
The joint declaration was adopted at a summit in Trenčín hosted by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and attended by the Czech, Polish and Hungarian presidents, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The leaders stressed that EU membership must depend on meeting strict and fair conditions, with no shortcuts or preferential treatment. They voiced particular support for Montenegro, while emphasising that Ukraine and Moldova should follow their own paths towards EU membership.
The presidents also called for continued support for Ukraine and highlighted the need for affordable, secure energy to strengthen Europe's competitiveness.
