The Slovak and Ukrainian governments are due to hold their fourth joint meeting in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Thursday. Prime Minister Robert Fico has said the talks will continue discussions between the two governments.
According to Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár, the agenda is expected to include possible ways to end the war between Ukraine and Russia, Ukraine's future in the European Union and energy security.
Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said Slovakia wants to see Ukraine become a stable, democratic and prosperous neighbour. He also reaffirmed Slovakia's support for Ukraine's EU membership, saying it could encourage the country to carry out long-needed reforms. At the same time, he stressed that Slovakia expects Ukraine to take its concerns into account, particularly over gas supplies.
Fico also noted that Slovakia is one of the EU countries holding the most intensive direct government-level talks with Ukraine.
