Constitutional Court rules part of Lex Assassination law unconstitutional

Slovakia's Constitutional Court has ruled that part of the so-called Lex Assassination law, passed in June 2024, is unconstitutional. The ruling concerns a provision allowing municipalities to ban public gatherings if they are considered to seriously interfere with the interests of local residents.

The court found that the wording giving municipalities broad grounds to impose such bans also violates the European Convention on Human Rights. The case was brought by a group of opposition MPs, but the court rejected their challenge to the rest of the law.
