Slovak coalition faces uncertainty after MP changes political camp

Slovakia's governing coalition is facing uncertainty after independent MP Roman Malatinec announced he was joining a political project led by former Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba. Malatinec was previously deputy chairman of Strana vidieka political party, led by Tourism and Sport Minister Rudolf Huliak. He is expected to focus on cultural affairs in Taraba's political group.

His move means the coalition can now rely on just 75 votes in Parliament, raising questions about its ability to pass government legislation. Coalition representatives say they need to discuss the situation, while parliamentary votes have been postponed.

Opposition parties claim the government has lost its majority and are calling for early elections.
