Slovak television is celebrating its 70th anniversary. Its first programme was broadcast by the Bratislava Television Studio on 3 November 1956, with a live gala event from Bratislava marking 30 years of radio broadcasting in Slovakia.
The first sports broadcast followed just weeks later, while colour television and a second channel were introduced in 1970. The anniversary is part of wider celebrations marking 100 years of radio broadcasting in Slovakia. A gala concert was held last Friday, 29 October, while Slovak Television and Radio, now part of a single public-service broadcaster, mark their 70th and 100th anniversaries respectively.
