No Slovaks among Victims or Injured in Train Collision in Spain

The Foreign Affairs Ministry has no information about any Slovak citizens being killed or injured in Wednesday's train collision in central Spain. The ministry added that neither the Slovak Embassy in Madrid, nor the ministry's International Operations Crisis Centre has so far been contacted by any Slovak national seeking assistance.

"The Foreign Affairs Ministry continues to closely monitor the situation in Spain and stands ready to provide consular assistance if necessary," stressed the ministry. Slovak nationals who find themselves in distress are advised to contact the ministry's International Operations Crisis Centre, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across all time zones.

Two high-speed trains collided at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday near the town of Urda in the Spanish province of Toledo. Rail services between Madrid and the autonomous community of Andalusia were suspended. The trains derailed following the collision and fell down a railway embankment. At least 64 people were killed in the crash.
