Visegrad Four (V4) countries want to strengthen cooperation on energy policy, emissions trading and family support. Parliamentary committees on European affairs agreed on the priorities at a meeting in Bratislava on Monday, concluding with the signing of the Bratislava Declaration. Peter Kalivoda, head of Slovakia’s parliamentary European affairs committee, said closer coordination would help Central Europe strengthen its voice in the EU.
The countries aim to secure reliable, affordable energy supplies and push for changes to the EU’s ETS1 and ETS2 emissions trading systems. They also want nuclear energy development and reform of the Green Deal to be shared priorities. Discussions also focused on demographic challenges, childcare and support for families, with delegates stressing the importance of combining economic strength with family-friendly policies. The meeting took place under Slovakia’s V4 presidency.
