An election moratorium began on Thursday ahead of Slovakia’s municipal and regional elections. During this period, political advertising is prohibited, as is the publication of election poll results and public opinion surveys.
The election campaign for the combined municipal and regional elections officially ended at 23:59 on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, 48 hours before election day. The moratorium came into effect at midnight on Thursday, October 22, and will remain in place until polling stations close on election day.
The elections to municipal and regional self-government bodies will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 07:00 to 20:00.
During the moratorium, political parties, movements, coalitions, and individual candidates are prohibited from campaigning. The publication of public opinion poll results is also banned.
The restrictions also prohibit the publication or broadcast of information about participating political parties, coalitions, or candidates, whether favourable or unfavourable. The ban applies across various media, including radio and television broadcasts, on-demand audiovisual media services, periodical and non-periodical publications, and news agency reports.
