Premier Promises Bratislava to Get 151 More State-Supported Rental Flats by 2028

A residential building with 151 rental flats will be added to Slovakia's state-supported rental housing scheme in the borough of Petrzalka, Bratislava.

Austrian company WBG, a member of the BWSG group, as an investment partner of the State-Supported Rental Housing Agency (ASPNB), is developing the Panonska project, located next to the street of the same name near the railway station. The cornerstone was officially laid at the construction site on Tuesday, although work is already under way. The project is scheduled for completion in 2028. Following the completed Ovocne Sady project near Bratislava Airport, it will be the second state-supported rental housing development in the capital.

The new 12-storey development will offer one-, two- and three-room flats, as well as 170 parking spaces. Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) said that most of the flats will have two rooms.

"An average two-room flat could cost €680 in rent a month without support. However, if an employee enters into an arrangement with their employer, the rent could drop to as little as €460, because the employer contribution is precisely what we introduced in the legislation and what makes this housing even more attractive," the prime minister stated.

Several flats in the Panonska development have already been reserved by the National Security Authority for its employees.

According to Fico, the ASPNB has registered around 14,000 people across Slovakia interested in renting flats under the scheme, approximately half of them from the Bratislava region.

"I would like to reiterate very clearly that the state-supported rental housing scheme is not a social housing construction project. It involves building standard, high-quality flats supported by the state, which in practice means that people can benefit from reasonably attractive rents that they will be able to afford from their own incomes," Fico said.

The Austrian investor has also made progress in preparing the construction of rental flats in Kosice.
