President Peter Pellegrini on Tuesday handed over credentials to six new Slovak ambassadors at the Presidential Palace.
Slovakia will be represented in Armenia by Katarina Zakova, in Bulgaria by Lubomir Golian, in the Republic of South Africa by Manuel Korcek, in Moldova by Dusan Dacho, in Poland by Igor Mauks and in Saudi Arabia by Marek Brieska.
Pellegrini reminded the new ambassadors that they would embody the fundamental priorities of Slovak foreign policy that are clearly defined by Slovakia's membership of the European Union (EU) and NATO.
"At the same time, your task will be to explore new avenues for economic cooperation, intensive cultural exchange and the promotion of tourism. In these efforts, you'll be guided by the interests and needs of Slovakia and its people," said Pellegrini.
According to him, diplomatic service entails great responsibility and service to all Slovak citizens. "There are no fixed working hours in diplomacy and in promoting our interests around the world," said Pellegrini, adding that this was particularly important in today's world, marked by crises and conflicts.
He recalled that Slovakia promotes the principles of effective multilateralism and the UN Charter as the cornerstones of the international order and peace.
