The Visegrad Four countries want the European Union to provide more flexible funding to help industries cope with high energy prices and strengthen economic competitiveness. Speaking after a meeting with EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen in Bratislava, Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Saková (HLAS-SD) said the countries would like to use EU cohesion funds or the Modernisation Fund for temporary support.
The V4 also wants future EU programmes to cover companies’ operating costs, not just investments, and to put nuclear energy on an equal footing with renewables. The ministers also called for EU support for alternative gas supply routes as Europe moves away from Russian energy. The discussions come as the EU seeks to reduce its dependence on external suppliers while keeping energy affordable and maintaining industrial competitiveness.
