Slovakia will prepare another aid package to help Ukraine through the coming winter, State Secretary at the Foreign Ministry Marek Eštok announced in Luxembourg on Monday. The assistance will focus on humanitarian support rather than weapons, including mine-clearing equipment and help for Ukraine’s infrastructure and energy sector, as Russia intensifies attacks on energy facilities ahead of winter.
The war dominated talks among EU foreign ministers, attended by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. Slovakia also supports a proposed energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, but Eštok urged the EU to pursue its own peace initiatives. Slovakia and Ukraine are also preparing their fourth joint government meeting to review previously agreed projects.
Eštok also expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia over attacks by Yemeni rebels, saying the wider Middle East crisis affects Slovakia, including through high fuel prices. EU officials are also due to discuss the bloc’s 2028–2034 budget, including a proposal to cut spending by around 159 billion euros from the European Commission’s original plan.
