EU Prosecutors Charged Suspect over Forestry Fraud

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bratislava filed charges against one person over alleged fraud involving an EU-funded forestry development project.

According to investigators, the accused provided false information to obtain nearly 193,000 euros in funding for forestry equipment. The suspect allegedly submitted false contracts to prove eligibility for the grant, despite the company having no actual revenue at the time.

The machinery was reportedly used for agricultural purposes by another company instead of forestry activities. If convicted, the defendant could face up to six years in prison and a fine of up to three million euros.
