President Peter Pellegrini says older people deserve respect and a dignified life, rather than being turned into a subject of political competition ahead of elections. He made the remarks on International Day of Older Persons, speaking during a visit to a senior care facility in Bratislava.
Pellegrini also stressed the importance of active ageing and keeping seniors involved in social life, where they can pass on their experience and knowledge to younger generations. He also highlighted the experiences of Jewish Holocaust survivors living at the facility and their contribution to rebuilding Slovakia after the war. The President called for greater intergenerational solidarity.
